My Story

https://allpoetry.com/poem/15819092-My-Story-by-Henrychukwuma717

From the fertile land

of story and rich epic

I’ll tell my story raw.
From the mountain’s songs,

I’ll sing my song aloud

***

A patched history

Dense in craft, soul and values,

Of history tinted

in blood; soiled in sweat,

Weaved and tailored in art

Story of all race

Be there for me

I’ve been your shield

Can you be there for me too?

Not as a cheap ass

Nor a cheat lass

***

[Chorus]

When I see you, I see hope

You’ve been the one on top

That has kept me going atop

***

Love is a friendly prison,

Even when it weakens the flesh

It strengthens the heart

And purifies the soul too

***

[Chorus]

When I see you, I see hope

You’ve been the one on top

That has kept me going atop

***

When in water, I flow still

At sea shore you always stand still

Keeping watch always

As I jump my hurdles

***

[Chorus]

When I see you, I see hope

You’ve been the one on top

That has kept me going atop

Wheels and Wills

Sounding the bugle of legends,

Blowing the trumpet of Heroism,

Echoing the drumbeat of Blessedness,

Chanting the songs of masquerade,

All into the ears of the mother earth.

From a Clattering Chatter

Melodious musical note gather;

***

To every deity

A sacrifice of brunt offering is offered;

To every animal,

A scent or communication identifies it;

To every person,

A style defines his or her being;

To every achievement,

A price is paid.

***

Oh life! You dare to question me,

If I’ve gone far in excellence,

It’s by flying with the wings of Heroic-genius,

If I’ve reached the sky,

It’s with the feathers of eagle,

If I’ve been hung on the sky, above the cloud,

It’s with the zeal to share the sky with the sun.

***

In measurement of success’s status

Of the height of my flight,

The depth of breath taken

And the length of breath broken is

The silent gong of wishes made wills.

Creed of Friendship

The attributes of a worthy friend – a friend you can call ‘a friend indeed’

https://allpoetry.com/poem/15775905-Creed-of-Friendship-by-Henrychukwuma717

In the night of darkness,
Friends are few
Yet in the light of success,
They outnumber you,
Enjoying with you in bounty
Taking a French leave in adversity;

***

Always will be my friend-
The one who feels
The pain in my voice
And the tone of my sorrow,

***

Always will be my friend-
The one who cares
For another’s welfare
And considers his neighbour’s interest,
Always will be my friend!

Tarnished Glory of Lofty Empire

(The strengths and weaknesses of human attributes. The fanciful nature of human achievements and the neglect of human core values.)

We’ve built tall walls of enemity

Yet unable to reclaim lost friendships

**

We’ve discovered the solar system

Yet we’ve been defeated by ourselves

**

We’ve built earth-demolishing missiles

Yet we’ve lost our sense of humanity

**

We’ve wished for miracles

Yet we betray our will-power

**

We’ve preached freedom and equity

Yet we’ve championed injustice and racism

**

We’ve longed for peace in the world

Yet among us, we incite wars

**

We’ve advanced so much in technology

Yet we consider inferior

The need of our nearest neighbour

**

We’ve celebrated our fallen heroes

Yet their heroic feats make no impacts on us

**

We all have been fearless most times

Yet, we were cowardly fools at times.

An Ode for Champions of History

(Chants for champions of history -Heroes and Genuises)

History decides and writes its heroes

And always out of anguish, it disfavors villains,

With heroes’ sweat and tears

Fallen nation will rise like Mandela’s bone,

Laid to rest in death with blood

Their loyalty for a cause is honoured

With dusts of time settling on history’s wall of fame,

In heroes’ mouth, words lack no taste,

Upon their lives, values are real and true,

Upon those men of good hearts eaten up

By a great cause of trampling inhumanity

And changing the course of time for better

Sacrificial lambs they’ll always become on history’s altar,

Since the world can’t contain heroes,

They’ll always choose to go life beyond

To create more free space for the younger generation,

Dying for things that can’t die

Of virtues’ legacy that’s passed upon ages that follow suit,

Achieving immortality in humans’ memory of heart

Through outliving the lifespan of time and space.

Love with ‘no but’

I was a bit surprised at how members of allpoetry.com appreciated and analysed this poem I published on their website at https://allpoetry.com/poem/15771440-Love-with–no-but–by-Henrychukwuma717

(A poem on the true nature of love – a love that accepts all faults.)

Eternity meeting present, I know
That a crown without thorn, is no glory,
Amidst her gentle bosom of tenderness
I recall the portrait
Of the pure soul of the cloud.

***

With no dot of imperfection,
I refuse to put down my hand of love,
Wanting, though I may find her,
Unwavering, I made her bosom
My best place of rest.

***

Who will buy me a cup of love?
Can any mortal define my stance?
If only I can eternally drink
From her sweet coated lips,
My lifelong thirst would be quenched.

Heroes and Honours

(In memory of past and present contributors to history and society)

Whenever I raise my right hand

To make an arc

Of reverence beside my forehead

To pledge my honorary salutation

To the history’s figures of stature

And ancestral heroes of the past,

I recall the real pictures

Of their painful struggles

Inherent in their dying wishes

Crowned with glory at last,

Upon the edifices’ heroes’ past

Their brave names carved with blood

On the history’s wall as epitaph’s honour

And enshrined in the world’s pantheon.

Consoling Gong

(The healing balm of truth and hope)

Air travels into the atmosphere,

In the spaceship of wind,

Furtively, it moves in a hurry,

Like a soldier in a rescue mission.

***

My wound lay bare,

For flies to lick, tread and peck on.

Painfully, I follow the echoes of the gong-

Into an unknown forest, I followed it.

***

The injury inflicted in the soul of man,

Sorrowfully pricks like the tip of a thorn.

No cry of physical volcano,

Pains like affliction and inferno of despair.

***

The cracking sound of firewood,

Depicts its impending burning,

For its usefulness,

Lies, in setting it ablaze for cooking;

***

Death lacks not hope

In the victory

Existence will surely bring

Into a real-idealistic cosmos;

***

If a diamond of new age,

Can illumine brightly

The charcoaled cave of barbarism,

Glaring will the eyes of light become.
